Who is Francesco Zavattari?

FRANCESCO ZAVATTARI was born in the Italian city of Lucca in 1983, and from the earliest years of life deals with different forms of expression, but it is mainly the Drawing that traces a profound evolution in his artistic activity.

In 2003, with only 20 years of age, gives life to the series 'Conversazioni disegnate' in each screen is performed in real time during a 'talk'. Although this debut attracted great attention from the media and the public, in the following years Francesco will dedicate himself to the development of his career as a designer, having in 2008 created Studio Matitanera, a design, communication and marketing company, of which is a director.

He returns to the artistic activity, now stimulated and supported by his professional development, initiating a regular route of expositions.
In 2011 he gives life to the series 'Indagine sull'ombra', which debuted at Fondazione Silvestro Marcucci in Massarosa. On October 16, 2013, celebrating its thirtieth birthday, Zavattari designs an international exhibition 'Ubiqua': six canvas, or rather, six fragments of canvas to form a single 'strip' of 50x600 cm, exposed in contexts as relevant as Madrid, Malta, Rome, Florence, Lucca and Lecce.
In February 2014, Zavattari begins an in-depth research on the use of colour in an artistic and professional context through the study of hundreds of masterpieces from different eras and officially credited by the three main museums in Madrid, Prado, Queen Sofia and Thyssen-Bornemisza. This research is currently underway in the 'InveLight ™' commercial project, which is be the motto for 'COLOUR STATE OF MIND', an educational project that includes masterclass and workshop in different schools of plastic arts. In May of the same year, in the studio of the 'Momus' architecture of Lucca, the new series 'Universo Instabile', a visual allegory of the desolate and frenetic space that exists inside all of us, opens. Due to the successive itineraries in Milan, Pietrasanta, Umbertide and Marina di Pisa, this becomes the series most exposed and followed in terms of public and media attention. The second half of 2014 sees the proliferation of one of the most peculiar activities of the artist: the 'Live Painting Performance', where Zavattari performs in public places realizing works of art in real time. In December of the same year he premiered in Umbria the series 'Ambitexter - L'evoluzione dello spazio-tempo'.

In the year 2015, the exhibitions are enriched with a new important stage: in April, in his homeland, he presents at the Fondazione Giuseppe Lazzareschi in Porcari the exhibition 'POLIEDRO': an evocative overview of the works carried out in recent years and numerous new ones paper drawings specially made for this exhibition. In the same month, in Portugal, she presented the exhibition "My Art is Female", at the Quinta de Santiago Museum in Matosinhos, three Live Painting Performances in Braga, Coimbra and Oporto, and numerous meetings in schools organized by UMAR, Art'Themis'. Zavattari collaborates with the association to promote, through its art, full equality of rights between men and women and the fight against all forms of violence. The project evolved with three individual exhibitions and new meetings: Vila Verde, Coimbra and Penafiel. In October, the great exhibition 'Elevata Concezione - Pietra. Letter. Luce 'premiered in Lecce, in the old Conservatoire of St. Anna: the city itself was an integral part of the work developed in the twelve works of the series, sponsored by the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce, where also the artist promotes a highly participated masterclass.

In 2016 the artist develops a new promotional phase of 'My Art is Female', collaborating again with the local authority of Vila Verde, with the design of a label for 'Equality Stain' beer of the LETRA brewery, but also with the series 'Skin Edition - Nothing but art and color in woman's body': Zavattari draws on the skin of different women and the result becomes object of photographs. In addition to several live performances, including the Netherlands and Sweden, this year develops into the project of the ninth series 'Congetture Isomorfe' which will be released the following year.

In 2017, in January, returns to Portugal with the exhibition 'Ambitexter' at the Paula Quintã Gallery in Oporto. In the same month, he will again travel to Lecce, for the premiere of the project 'COLOUR STATE OF MIND' at the Academy of Fine Arts. In February, he performs a Live Painting Performance at the Luciano Pavarotti Museum House in Modena, as part of the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the death of this famous tenor. In April the artist returns to Portugal, this time to Felgueiras Secondary School, where she presents the exhibition POLIEDRO (including the POLIEDRO installation and the series 'My Art is Female' and 'Ambidexter') and the educational project. In June, and being prepared from the previous year including all the theoretical support from a scientific board, the ninth series 'Congetture Isomorfe', in which art meets mathematics, opens at the Museum of the Instruments of Calculus, University of Pisa.

In May 2018 two mirror projects were launched. The first, '(Mind) blowing', a sculptural series dedicated to large public spaces that carries on the expertise developed in years of installations starting with 'Poliedro'. The second project, instead, investigates more intimate and reduced realities in space: 'Tavolozze' is in fact a suite of small works of 11x11 cm, each one characterized by an original design and history.

On July 1st Zavattari debut for the theatre direction of 'Unstable Universe - The show. The dance.’ at the Verdi in Pisa.  Taken from the homonymous series of 2015 and transposed by the choreographer Annalisa Ciuti with whom Francesco collaborates assiduously.
